Which Type of Sod is Right for You?
During your FREE on-site evaluation, we’ll help you choose the perfect variety for you.
Popular Sod Varieties
Zoysia has been a very popular choice this year with homeowners, mostly due to its high resistance to insects, immunity to chinch bugs, and drought tolerance.
- Empire Zoysia – Originally developed in Brazil, Empire features a dark green color, disease resistance, and drought resistance.
- Jamur Zoysia – A dwarf variety of St. Augustine, and generally better than Empire in central Florida.
We also offer seven types of St. Augustine grass, including:
- Captiva – Developed by the University of Florida for its Chinch bug resistance and dwarf profile which requires less mowing.
- Floratam – Resists SAD and chinch bugs. Not as cold- or shade-tolerant.
- Palmetto – Selected for its shade tolerance and cold tolerance.
- Sapphire – Selected from Australia for its dark blue green color and rapid lateral growth.
- Seville – Finer texture than Floratam, but shared Floratam’s strengths and weaknesses.
- Bitter Blue – Works well in partly shaded areas, but susceptible to mold in areas under 25 degrees.
- Classic – A hybrid of ‘Bitter Blue’ and ‘Palmetto’ varieties. Combines thick growth of Palmetto with disease resistance of Bitter Blue.
